TATĂL NOSTRU

Tatăl nostru carele
Mîni la pradă fiarele
Şi ogoi cu buciumul
Viforul şi zbuciumul.
Cîrmuieşti corabia,
Zbori pe sus cu vrabia.
Rîzi cu dimineţile,
Plîngi şi gemi cu vieţile.

Creşti în frunza socului,
Arzi în para focului,
Murmuri cu fîntînile,
Stai la sfat cu stînile,
Eşti zemos cum rodia,
Te întinzi cît zodia,
Dormi în ochii boilor,
Cînţi în stropii ploilor.

Eşti mireasma florilor,
Mişti aripa morilor,
Fugi în peştii apelor,
Scurmi cu dinţii grapelor,
Sui în seva luncilor,
Sugi cu gura pruncilor,
Curgi în mierea stupilor,
Urli-n foamea lupilor.

Te îngînă clopotul,
Tăinuieşti cu şopotul,
Te îndoi cu mladele,
Durui cu cascadele,
Te sfîşii cu geamătul,
Te înalţi cu freamătul,
Alergînd cu sunetul,
Detunînd cu tunetul.

Tatăl nostru carele
De dîrlogi duci soarele,
Luminînd cu stelele
Bunele şi relele.
Eşti deasupra miilor
Dumnezeul viilor -
Şi deasupra sorţilor
Dumnezeul morţilor.

OUR FATHER

Our father who
Drive the beasts to prey
And soothe with the horn
The struggle and the storm.
You steer the ship,
Fly up with the sparrow.
Laugh with the mornings,
Weep and moan with the lifes.

Grow in the leaf of the elder,
Burn in the flames,
Whisper with the fountains,
Ask advice of sheepfolds,
You are juicy like the pomegranate,
You are as large as zodiac,
Sleep in the eyes of the oxen,
Sing with the drops of the rains.

You are the scent of the flowers,
Move the wing of the mills,
Swim with the fishes,
Scratch with the harrows,
Raise with the sap of the meadows,
Suck with the mouth of the baby,
Flow with the honey of the beehives,
Howl with the hunger of the wolfs.

The bells accompany you,
You speek with the spring,
Bend with the sprouts,
Roar with the waterfalls,
Tear with the moan,
Raise with the rustling,
Run with the sound,
Thunder with the thunder.

Our father who
Drive the sun by harness,
Lighting with the stars
The good and the evil.
You are above the thousands
The God of the living -
And above the fates
The God of the dead.

MARELE OCHI AL IERNII

Ochi mare, nu te vezi decît tu,
noi suntem imagini rapide
curbîndu-ne, atunci, acu,
şi rupţi ca raza-n lichide.
Alunecăm pe emisfera ta,
sculpturi în relief, de aer,
şi ţărmul pleoapei reci şi grea
ne-nfige-n furci de gene verzi, cu vaier.
Şi ne-ntîmplăm, pierim, ne stingem
pe irisul în contemplare,
dar nu-şi suntem priviri, ci ningem
în iarna ta, ochi mare, tu, ochi mare.

BIG EYE OF WINTER

Big eye, only you are seen,
we are fast images
curving us, then, now,
broken like the ray in liquid.
We slip on your hemisphere,
sculptures in relief, of air,
and the shore of the cold and heavy eyelid
thrust us in forks of green lashes.
And we happen, we perish, we estinguish,
on the iris in contemplation,
but we aren't your looks, we are snowing
in your winter, big eye, you, big eye.

ŢINE OCHII ÎNCHIŞI

Ţine ochii închişi, ţine ochii închişi,
O singură dată ni se dă.
Nu te întreb nimic,
Ninsoarea se-aşterne,
A-ngropat cimitirul şi satul,
Zideşte biserica,
Vîrfuri de plopi se mai văd
Dînd colţ ca o iarbă deasupra.
Ninsoarea se-aşterne şi suie
Ca o cîmpie dospită
Care în curînd va opri
Timpul de sus să mai cadă.
Ţine ochii închişi,
O singură dată ni se dă
Şi trbuie să dăm o singură dată.
Nu te întreb nimic, aşteaptă
Ultimul fulg de timp s-apuie
Şi să se facă gol în ceruri
Şi linişte, abia atunci
Desprinde-ţi braţul stîng din cuie
Şi lin rastoarnă ceasul cu zapadă.

KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED

Keep your eyes closed, keep your eyes closed,
Only once it is given to us.
I ask you nothing,
The snow is spreading,
It has buried the cemetery and the village,
It has built up the church,
Tops of popplars are yet seen
Rising like grass above.
The snow is spreading and rises
Like a yeasted plain
That soon will stop
The time to fall from above.
Keep your eyes closed
Only once it is given to us
And we must give it only once.
I ask you nothing, wait
The last flake of time to set down
And to make emptiness in the sky
And silence, only then
Take off your left arm from the nails
And gently overturn the snow clock.

it is gently snowing on the earth

my hair was red when the summer gone
my hair of heavy unswung gold
niled by the frost dusted by the fog
where I laid it down it is gently snowing

cut it with the light of the ice on the lakes
the reed vibrates clearly dreaming it
the star asks for the thread to get down
the eyes follow it as far as the earth

I stay with my hands bent on top of my head
I cannot turn to see you coming
my hair would come untired fabulous and blind
caught in its cascade I could not  gather it

take in your hands lots of snow balls
throwing them against the hair that I barely keep
maybe one of them will change into a hairpin
in order to free my hands of pain

CÎNTEC

Amintiri nu are decît clipa de-acum.
Ce-a fost într-adevăr nu se ştie.
Morţii îşi schimbă tot timpul între ei
numele, numerele, un, doi, trei...
Există numai ceea ce va fi,
numai întîmplările neîntîmplate,
atîrnînd de ramura unui copac
nenăscut, stafie pe jumătate...
Există numai trupul meu înlemnit,
ultimul, de bătrîn, de piatră.
Tristeţea mea aude nenăscuţii cîini
pe nenăscuţii oameni cum îi latră.
O,numai ei vor fi într-adevăr !
Noi, locuitorii acestei secunde
suntem un vis de noapte, zvelt,
cu-o mie de picioare alergînd oriunde.

SONG

Only the present moment has memories.
What was indeed isn't known.
The dead change always among them
their name, their numbers, one, two, three...
It is only what will be,
only the unhappened events
hanging from the branch
of an unborn half ghost tree...
It is only my wood body,
the last, of an old man, of a stone.
My sadness hears the unborn dogs
barking to the unborn people.
Oh, only them will truly be !
We, the inhabitants of this second
are a night dream, slender,
with thousand feet running everywhere.

STARE

Nu dormeam. Mă lăsam dus
Cum se lasă umerii duşi de-o aripă.
Ma înhamasem de mult la o clipă
Şi-o tîram prin vecie, supus.

Ca un cîntec pe note nepus,
O, ce agregat de dezagregare !
O,ce mai răsărit de apus !
Ca un prunc în veşnică înfăşare.

Şi se mai făcea totodată,
Că mă feream de Dumnezeu să-l respir,
Respirandu-l odată pe niciodată
Şi începusem să mă deşir.

Nu dormeam. Mă lăsam dus
Cum se lasă umerii duşi de-o aripă
Mă înhamasem demult la o clipă
Ce ma tîra blînd, tot mai sus.

MOOD

I was't asleep. I let myself  be carried
As the shoulders let themselves be carried by an wing,
I had yoked myself long time ago at a moment
And I was dragging it obediently through the eternity.

Like an unsung song,
Oh, what an aggregate of disintegration !
Oh, what a sunrise of a sunset !
Like a baby in eternal swaddleness.

And it heppened in the same time
That I was keeping aside from God not to breathe him,
Breathing ever the never
And I began to spin out.

I wasn't asleep. I let myself be carried
As the shoulders let themselves be carried by an wing,
I had yoked myself long time ago at a moment
Which was dragging me gently, more and more up.

ASEMENI MAGULUI

LIKE THE MAGUS

I was wrong sometimes in my light
like the magus tormented by the questions,
tired of seekings,
of my always boundless distances.

O, to run, to discover lands,
or an wonderful star, or bottoms of seas,
to be restless,
timeless on the horizon,

To find yourself among the colours sounding
and to shine among the sounds,
in the top of the thought
to bring love,

To burn on an altar
as a crucified man
and- unobedient to the dark -
to have the destiny
of being a god in the spherical mechanism,

To be able to smile to the defeated people,
you, who were alike their shadow,
to give to the beings
the forgiveness as power and measure -

Ah, I failed many signs,
like the magus, tormented by the questions,
tired of the seekings,
of my always boundless distances.

DIGUL

Pot aluneca
sau pot înainta curajos. E totuna.

THE JETTY

The sea is striking against the jetty on which that evening
we hadn't the courage to go to the end. The wet stone
was slippery and, at a step from us, was broken. If we weren't careful
we could fall in the water which was boilling below.
But we were careful. As always. So careful
that one day we'll  give up coming on the jetty.
We'll be content with remembering it,
then we'll remember it more and more rarely,
and in the end we'll forget it,
we'll forget that one evening we were perhaps decided to go to the end.
Now, even if I should go on the jetty,
I can't do it but alone. I can slip
or bravely advance. It's the same.

VISĂTORUL

Spînzurat de aer printre ramuri
se frămîntă în mătasa-i
un păianjen.
Raza lunii
l-a trezit din somn.

Ce se zbate ? A visat că
raza lunii-i fir de-al lui şi
cearc' acuma să se urce
pînă-n ceruri, sus, pe-o rază.

Se tot zbate îndrăzneţul
şi s-azvîrle.
Şi mi-e teamă
c-o sa cadă - visătorul.

THE DREAMER

Hanging in the air among the branches
a spider
is astir in his silk web.
The moon beam
has woken him.

Why does he struggle ? He dreamed that
the moon beam is his thread
and now he try to climb
high in the sky, on those ray.

He continuously struggle
and throw himself.
And I am afraid
that he'll fall - the dreamer.

NUMAI CÎŢIVA MUNŢI

Numai cîţiva munţi poţi să urci,
numai cîteva trupuri poţi strînge în braţe,
numai cîteva limbi vei vorbi,
numai cîteva nume de flori vei cunoaşte,
de cînd răsar şi pînă se scutură.

ONLY A FEW MOUNTAINS

Only a few mountains you can climb,
only a few bodies you can hold in your arms,
only a few languages you will speake,
only a few flower you will know,
since they bloom till they shake off.

PARADIS DESTRĂMAT

Numai cuvintele şi ecoul,
numai suspinele,numai privirile

BROKEN PARADISE

Only the words and the echo,
only the sighs, only the looks
and the voices when they offer themselves
with the caresses and the secret of the heart !

However we could have another destiny
beyound the fugitive moan
of the dates. Maybe both of us
could climb more easyily the desert path
till the autumns of the oblivion would wept over us
with rumours of waters and heaps of leaves.

But waiting that dreaded,
expected hour would beat by itself,
we wander thrugh the broken paradise
that lose itself in the rocking moments
and in the cheating of the dreamed dream.

For the defeated ones the desert remains
and the regret like a witch
from the fire of the past,
the untold fairy-tale of what could have been.

REPETIŢIA

Spaţiul - dar cum ar putea să se-arate
locul-nelocul acela cu imnuri
vag aurind, unde timpul palpită
ca un cast aleluia printre nori ?

Spaţiul în care tînjim şi apunem
nu există : l-am născut împreună.
Gingaş e totul acolo, şi sacru,
adăpare de fluturi tîrzii.

Străzile noastre - niciunde, cutreier
pururi lăuntric ; la fel ca-n tulpina
socului, miezul respiră ; vedenii
strălucesc, mai reale ca noi.

Crude, ca sîmburii unei religii,
picură clipele. Rasul tău nu e
ah ! decat limita arderii, semnul
de la care începem să fim.

Simţi, peste noi, cea dintîi întîlnire ?
Restul e doar repetiţie ; suma
micilor noastre pulsaţii, cenuşa
ghiftuind un miracol avid.

REPETITION

The space - but how would appear
those place - non place with hymns
vaguely gilding, where the time is thrilling
like a chaste hallelujah among the clouds ?

The space where we  yearn and vanish
doesn't exist : we had given birth to it together.
Gentle it is all there, and sacred,
watering of late butterflies.

Our streets - nowhere, I always walk
inwordly : like in the stem
of the elder, the core is breathing ; visions
are shining, more real than us.

Green, like the kernels of a religion,
the moments are dropping. Your laughter isn't
ah ! but the limit of the burning, the sign
from which we begin to exist.

Do you feel, above us, our first date ?
The rest is just repetition, the amount
of our little pulsations, the ashes
cramming a greedy miracle.

A DOUA FABULĂ BIBLICĂ

Zise Dumnezeu către greier :
- " N-ai pic de creier,
Eşti eroarea mea nătîngă,
Nu faci nimic pe pămînt..."
- " Cum, nimica, Doamne ? Cînt."

Şi Dumnezeu începu să plîngă.

LA SECONDA FAVOLA BIBLICA

Disse Dio verso la cicala :
- " Non hai nemmeno un po' di cervello,
Sei il mio stupido errore,
Non fai nulla sotto il sole..."
- " Come, nulla, Dio ? So cantare."

E Dio comincio a piangere.

THE SECOND BIBLICAL FABLE

God spoke to the cricket :
- " You have no brain,
You are my stupid error,
You do nothing on the earth..."
-" Nothing, God ? I sing."

And God began to cry.

Pierdut in codrii lumii fermecate.

THE SAME WITH THE LILY

The same with the lily of the field,
Neither I weave nor I spin.
Tempted by the glory of the summer sky
With my bare thorns I turn to you :
Have a heart and throw a blanket
Of flowers with royal petals
On the back of the hoar-frosted thorn
From the moor of your lawns.
And at autumn, when he'll be withering,
Sand your peaceful lamb to gaze him.
Like the birds of the sky, I never
Come to plough, nor I take pains to harvest.
Forgetful, I hungry compete
With the flock of the plovers :
Throw from the barn of the holy angels
A handful of blessed beans
For a vagant crazy singer
Lost in the forests of the charming world.
And in winter, to pass in sunny lands
Sand your hawk to take me in its claws.

Care-i loveşte drept în inimă

HOW TO KILL THE POET

The poets are never needed.

They are some parasites, some abortions, they are all raving mad.
They don't deserve to live in the world
Because all they want is to run from it.

The poets are good for nothing. Their only talent is to disturb the public order
To make disorder among the things that scrupulously and devotedly the good people decently arrange
The poets scratch among the scraps lodged at the edge of the inhabited earth
They burn them to warm theirselves and of the ashes they make amulets
They are some pagans
Some barbarians
Some lunatics who don't deserve to live
In the camp that the worthy call world

They are often nocturnal creatures
Who feed themselves on resins, on the dust of the roads, on fire and on ghosts braised in blood
They swallow all kinds of ghosts

The poets are hard to kill
But for the public good
There are some means to annihilate them

Don't try to cut their arms or feet
The cut of their members will make them fly
As soon as they can't walk they get wings

The pain amplify their powers

The poets cannot be killed by stones
Because they know to redirect the stones to that who throws them
If they are hunged their shadows begin to dance with the shadows of the living, turning their brains,
The blood of the crucified poets still on the pitch drawing terrifying outlines

The poets cannot be destroied but by an archer who hit them straight in the heart
The archer must be of a rare beauty
So that the poet alone would make his way to the death

More the killer is beautiful, more the poet is happy to die
He knows that he'll die
Because the light in the archer's eyes can vanquis for a moment the pain
And the pain is what keeps him alive

The poets die neither of cold, neither of hunger, neither of disease, neither of old age,
They die when they are pierced straight in the heart
By the most beautiful archer who throws to them the most beautiful arrow from the most beautiful town
From the most beautiful of the possible worlds.

LEGĂMÎNT

Lui Mihai Eminescu

Ştiu : cîndva, la miez de noapte,
Ori la răsărit de Soare,
Stinge-mi-s-or ochii mie
Tot deasupra cărţii Sale.
Am s-ajung atunce, poate,
La mijlocul ei aproape.
Ci să nu închideţi cartea
Ca pe recile-mi pleoape.
S-o lăsaţi aşa deschisă,
Ca băiatul meu ori fata
Să citească mai departe
Ce n-a reuşit nici tata.
Iar de n-au s-auză dînşii
Al străvechii slove bucium,
Aşezaţi-mi-o ca pernă
Cu toţi codrii ei în zbucium.

OATH

To Mihai Eminescu

I know : once, at midnight,
Or at rising of the Sun,
My eyes will extinguish
Still over His book.
I'll reach then, maybe,
It's half nearly.
But don't close the book
As you'll do with my cold eyelids.
Leave it open
As my daughter or my son
Could read forward
What didn't succeed their father.
But if they will not listen
To the horn of ancient letter,
Put it as my pillow
With all its restless woods.
